Home entertainment options have been skyrocketing over the past few years and all signs indicate that this trend will not only continue, but will likely intensify. With the advent of items such as hi-definition televisions and blu-ray players, consumers found themselves capable of having nearly movie theater quality viewing experiences from the comfort of their own homes. This has led to an increasing demand for additional options with an even higher quality level.
3D televisions, which enable consumers to be fully immersed in the modern version of 3D technology, are the current high point of home viewing technology. They enhance regular programming and provide a high quality 3D experience outside of a movie theater. Video game systems and game developers have rushed to incorporate 3D technology into their products and will be beneficial in the push to get 3D televisions into the hands of more mainstream consumers.
Companies such as Samsung and Sony are currently leading the charge to develop our home entertainment options of the future. The OLED, which is an extremely thin screen that requires no back lighting and would render LCD TV technology as obsolete, is currently in development. Another item on the horizon is a holographic TV, which will deliver true 3D imagery without the need for 3D glasses. Companies in Japan are hopeful that they’ll have holographic TV’s on store shelves by the year 2020.
Whatever the future brings, it’s virtually guaranteed that the quality of the home viewing experience will continue to grow and that new technologies will likely be released at an ever quickening pace.
